Why does your website matter to your YouTube channel?
Because while we focus a lot in this course on the YouTube ad itself, you also need to make sure that you have a strong YouTube channel, and your own site is where you market it.
One of those things is making sure that your social icons are prominent on the page, especially the YouTube icon that is going to direct people to your YouTube channel. As you can see here, we have our social icons down the left hand side in bright, bold colours, and YouTube is at the top. You also want to make sure that when you click this it opens in a new tab, not in the tab people are already on.
You do not just want this in one place on your website. As you can see, we have our social icons down here in the bottom right hand corner too, and again YouTube is number one.
How do embedded videos help?
They send interested visitors straight into your channel. Make sure you have embedded videos from your YouTube channel on landing pages on your website.
This is one of the landing pages I have already shown you, and here is the exact same video I showed you earlier. This is really important, because if someone takes an interest in this video and clicks it, it will open into your YouTube channel, and hopefully they will continue to watch more videos there.
You also want to make sure that on your channel you have playlists created, so this video might sit in a playlist of a few other videos around the same topic, so people will continue to watch videos on your channel.
Another thing you can do is create video blogs. That is essentially just embedding a video in the blog, and you need to make sure there is some text on there as well. By embedding a video in the blog, again you are marketing your channel on site.
What links and calls to action should you add?
Links in both directions and clear prompts to watch more.
You want to include links in the text back to your YouTube channel, and obviously if they watch the video that will link to your channel as well, and hopefully they will continue watching videos there. You can also link from your channel to your website, and that will really help too.
One final thing on your website is to put calls to action throughout the landing page, or just throughout your website pages, telling people to watch more on YouTube. This is really important, because it gives people that call to action and directs them to your YouTube channel.
Where next?
The library holds every video we have published. The AEO pages explain the method behind them, what it costs and what the evidence actually supports.
