Voice assistants now remember what they told you. Apple's iOS 27.2 update, released on 26 October 2026, lets Siri AI recall past conversations, so you can ask about "the restaurants it recommended last week". Alexa+ keeps conversation context, and ChatGPT's voice mode can use memory. For a business, that means a spoken recommendation need not disappear when the conversation ends: in our view, being the first answer matters more, and your details need to be easy to find again.

What changed in Siri with iOS 27.2?
Siri AI can now recall your past conversations with it. Apple's release notes give the example of asking Siri about something it told you before, "like the restaurants it recommended last week". The same update lets Siri draw on more personal context, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List.
The update also adds an Excluded Apps setting to choose which apps Siri can access, and extends Siri AI to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Some limits matter: Siri AI is still labelled beta, needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later, is not available in the EU or mainland China, and Apple says server-based features are subject to daily usage limits.
Is it only Siri that remembers?
No. Alexa+ and ChatGPT Voice also offer context or memory. Amazon says Alexa+ "remembers the context of conversations so you can seamlessly pick up wherever you left off" and can remember preferences you choose to share, such as a food preference, to shape recommendations. Alexa+ started rolling out in the UK on 19 March 2026 as part of an Early Access programme, and on 29 October 2026 it began rolling out in Japan.
OpenAI's help page for ChatGPT Voice says the Live option "can use web search and memory". And on 28 October 2026 Perplexity upgraded the voice mode in its Mac app and web app for Pro and Max subscribers to run on OpenAI's gpt-live-1, as reported by 9to5Mac.

Why does assistant memory matter for businesses?
Because a spoken recommendation can now be asked about again later. Before, if an assistant read out a business name and the listener forgot it, that moment was gone. Now the listener can come back a week later and ask what it recommended, and the assistant can retrieve it.
Our view, and it is a view, not something Apple or Amazon has said: this gives the first recommendation a longer life. The business named the first time is the one the person can recall by asking, and the one they are most likely to ask follow-up questions about, such as opening hours, prices or how to book. None of the platforms has said that memory changes which businesses get recommended to other people, so do not assume it does.
What should a business do about it?
Be the answer the first time, and make sure the follow-up questions have clear answers too. Four practical steps:
- Answer first, out loud. Open each key page with a one or two sentence answer that makes sense on its own when spoken. That is what gets read out in the first place.
- Answer the follow-ups. Think about what someone asks after hearing your name: are you open now, how much is it, where are you, how do I book. Put those answers on your site in plain sentences and keep them current.
- Keep your details identical everywhere. Name, address, phone number, hours and a one-sentence description should match on your site, Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, directories and booking partners. An assistant recalling you is only useful if the details it finds are right.
- Make your name easy to say and hear. If your business name is hard to pronounce or easily misheard, say how it is pronounced on your About page and use it consistently.
This is why we work AEO to SEO, not SEO to AEO: start with the answer someone hears, then build the pages and listings that support it.

How do you test this?
Add a memory step to your monthly voice check. Ask your fixed set of customer questions aloud on each assistant as usual and log who is named. Then, a few days later on the same account, ask the assistant what it recommended last time and log whether it recalls the same business and what details it gives.
Keep it honest: memory works per user and per account, so this tells you how the assistant behaves for one person, not for everyone. Our voice search guide covers the full monthly check.

Quick answers
What did iOS 27.2 change for Siri?
iOS 27.2, released on 26 October 2026, lets Siri AI recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, such as restaurants it recommended last week. It also draws on more personal context and adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
Do Alexa+ and ChatGPT Voice have memory too?
Yes. Amazon says Alexa+ remembers the context of conversations and preferences you choose to share. OpenAI says ChatGPT Voice's Live option can use web search and memory.
Does assistant memory help my business get recommended?
Not directly, as far as the platforms have said. Memory lets a person ask again about a business that was already recommended to them, so in our view being the first answer and having clear follow-up details matters more.
Is Siri AI available in the UK?
Apple does not list the UK as excluded: Siri AI is available in beta in English and five other languages, and is not available in the EU or mainland China. It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later, and some features may not be available in all regions.
How can I check whether an assistant remembers my business?
Ask your usual customer questions aloud, log who is named, then on the same account a few days later ask what the assistant recommended last time. Log whether it recalls the same business and what details it gives.
